2026 JConcepts INS16 Round 5 Finals race report cover featuring Broc Champlin’s Schumacher buggy at Hoosier RC Hobbyplex

The 2026 JConcepts Indoor National Series concluded at Hoosier RC Hobbyplex with 295 entries from 115 drivers. Across the event, racers completed 23,406 laps, with Sunday, October 18, delivering the final round victories and season championship decisions.

Sunday’s program featured 47 main races across 11 classes, excluding warm-ups. Hoosier’s high-grip layout demanded precision through the drop-down, triple, step-on/step-off, and tight switchbacks. Small mistakes opened passing opportunities, while traffic and changing jump strategies kept several outcomes uncertain until the final lap.

Broc Champlin swept the Modified Buggy round wins, Domnic Paccione doubled in Expert Buggy, and Alton Henley captured both Independent Buggy classes. The season’s final championship announcement brought its own suspense, with Aydin Horne and Chase Lemieux’s 2WD Modified title battle reaching a fourth tiebreaker.

Inside the Lap: Three Timing Sectors

The sector map breaks the layout into three timed sections. In the captured Sunday laps, Sector 2 produced the longest typical split in every class, while Sector 3 was the shortest. Linking the sections cleanly mattered as much as finding speed in a single corner.

Top Qualifiers

Saturday’s qualifying established the drivers who would lead their classes into Sunday’s A-Mains.

40+ 2WD Modified Buggy TQ: David Alberico.

Two Transfer Spots—and Only One in Modified

The pressure began well before the A-Mains. Two drivers advanced from each lower main in every class except 2WD and 4WD Modified Buggy, where only the winner moved forward.

The 2WD Modified C-Main produced the closest winning margin of Sunday’s mains. Luke Siela beat Daniel Bender by just 0.099 seconds, taking the only transfer and keeping his climb alive. Nate Sutherland later won the B-Main to earn the final place in the triple A-Mains.

The 4WD Modified B-Main was nearly as tense. William Venables and Noah Hicklin finished just 0.312 seconds apart, with Venables claiming the single available transfer.

In 13.5 Expert 4WD Buggy, Jeff Statkiewicz and Maccoy Martin advanced from the B-Main. Statkiewicz immediately turned that opportunity into a front-running result, climbing from ninth on the A1 grid to finish second.

Owen Vanderbeek and Aaron Mitchell earned the 17.5 Expert 2WD transfers, separated by only 0.730 seconds in the B-Main. Reyna Chodara also made her transfer count in 21.5 Independent Buggy, later climbing from ninth on the A2 grid to run second.

Champlin and Batta Take 2WD Modified to the Final Lap

Broc Champlin’s Sunday ended with victories in both Modified Buggy classes.

Broc Champlin and Davey Batta delivered one of the day’s strongest battles, with the round victory requiring all three A-Mains.

Champlin led A1, but Batta stayed close and searched for an opening through the technical sections. When Champlin ran wide, Batta moved inside and took the lead. Champlin continued applying pressure, but Batta held on to win by 1.160 seconds, with Chase Lemieux third.

Champlin answered in A2. After adjusting his car to improve the sections where Batta had been stronger, he protected the lead through another close contest. Batta closed rapidly on the final lap, but Champlin crossed first by just 0.254 seconds.

That left both drivers entering A3 with a win and a second.

Batta followed Champlin closely through the opening minutes, repeatedly closing onto his rear bumper. With a little over a minute remaining, Champlin ran wide and Batta took the lead. The roles immediately reversed, with Champlin now searching for a way through.

With roughly 30 seconds remaining, Batta caught a pipe and Champlin moved back inside to reclaim first. Batta stayed close through the last lap, but Champlin held on to secure the race and overall victory.

Afterward, Champlin explained that each car had stronger sections of the track, making the race a continuous exchange of pressure. Their final leg gave the Sunday program a finish worthy of the season finale.

Champlin Wraps Up 4WD Modified in Two

Davey Batta started from TQ in 4WD Modified, but Champlin made the most of openings in the first two legs.

In A1, Batta led before a mistake at the front-straight section allowed Champlin through. Behind the leader, the order continued changing as drivers negotiated the demanding layout. Chase Lemieux climbed from eighth on the grid to finish second, with Tater Sontag third.

A2 followed a similar pattern. An early mistake from Batta gave Champlin the lead, while Brennan Schimmel and Batta contested the positions behind him. Champlin used that breathing room to complete his second victory and secure the overall.

In his interview, Champlin credited an easy-to-drive car and a return to a setup previously used at Hoosier. Keeping the car predictable allowed him to capitalize when opportunities appeared.

Batta won A3, but Schimmel’s pair of second-place finishes earned him second overall ahead of Batta.

Round podium: 1. Broc Champlin | 2. Brennan Schimmel | 3. Davey Batta
Series champion: Chase Lemieux

Paccione Holds Off the Challenges in 13.5 Expert 4WD

Domnic Paccione secured the overall with victories in A1 and A2, although the racing behind those results was far from straightforward.

Dustin Fox challenged early in A1 before a rollover dropped him into the chasing group. Statkiewicz moved forward from ninth, passed Sammy Moran for second, and then had to defend the position as Moran and Fox continued attacking.

Paccione had a mistake of his own, but the battle behind him provided enough breathing room to recover and take the win. Statkiewicz held second, with Moran third.

A2 became a contest between pace and risk. Fox and Luke Pravechek remained involved as mistakes reduced Paccione’s advantage. In the closing stages, Pravechek continued clearing the triple while Paccione took the more conservative double-single route.

Pravechek closed late, but Paccione held on to clinch the overall. In his interview, Paccione admitted that nerves had contributed to a race that became tighter than he wanted.

Fox won A3 to secure second overall, with Benjamin Decker completing the podium.

Paccione captured both Expert Buggy round victories and both Expert series championships.

Dustin Fox took the opening 17.5 Expert 2WD leg, leaving Paccione needing a response.

Fox led again in A2, but a mistake allowed Paccione through. Matthew Gonzales then became the closest challenger, using the triple to close onto the leader and keeping the pressure on through the tight sections.

A late encounter with the pipe ended Gonzales’ challenge, giving Paccione room to take the win and send the overall decision into A3.

Afterward, Paccione explained that defending on the high-grip layout required tight, precise lines. Avoiding a wide corner exit mattered as much as outright speed.

Fox and Paccione broke away early in the deciding leg before another mistake from Fox handed Paccione the advantage. Talon Henley moved into second and kept the leader within reach, but Paccione gradually extended his cushion to secure the overall.

Henley finished second overall, with Gonzales third. Paccione completed Sunday with two round wins and two Expert Buggy series titles.

Series champion: Domnic Paccione

Henley Recovers to Sweep 13.5 Independent 4WD

Alton Henley won both A-Mains, but the second victory required him to regain control of a changing lead battle.

In A1, Henley quickly recovered from an early mistake and began pulling away. Lex Mott, Ethan Maki, and Jacob Doron exchanged positions behind him, with Mott securing second and Doron third.

A2 brought Henley, Mott, and Lane Lazarz into the front-running contest. Henley briefly lost the lead, but when Mott encountered trouble at the triple, Henley moved back through.

He settled into the remainder of the race and completed the sweep. Mott’s two second-place finishes secured the runner-up position overall, with Doron third.

Beau Jacobsen and Thomas Vandervelden earned their A-Main places through the B-Main.

Round podium: 1. Alton Henley | 2. Lex Mott | 3. Jacob Doron
Series champion: Ethan Maki

Traffic Shapes the 17.5 Independent 2WD Decision

Henley finished Sunday with round victories in both Independent Buggy classes.

Henley added a second class victory, with the overall outcome remaining uncertain until the closing moments of A2.

Starting third in A1, Henley emerged from the opening exchanges in front and built his advantage. Lane Lazarz finished second, with Jacob Doron third.

Adam McKown took control early in A2 and began chasing the time Henley had established in the opening leg. McKown remained in contention for the overall as the race approached its finish, but trouble involving lapped traffic delayed him on the final lap.

McKown still won the leg, ahead of Ethan Maki and Henley. However, Henley’s faster A1 victory secured the overall on the tiebreak.

Carter Steele and Van Slutz earned the two B-Main transfers. McKown finished second overall at Hoosier and took home the season championship.

Lazarz Makes Consistency Count in 21.5 Independent

Lane Lazarz swept both A-Mains to secure the round victory and finish his championship season on top.

In A1, Lazarz opened a commanding lead while Ian Schultz and Jason Kessinger worked toward the remaining podium positions. Lazarz repeated the performance in A2, managing his advantage as the battle behind him developed.

B-Main winner Reyna Chodara delivered one of the class’s notable drives. Starting ninth in A2, she climbed to second and became part of the fight with Schultz before later trouble dropped her back.

Schultz recovered second at the finish, with Kessinger third, matching the overall podium. Chodara and Steven Emmons had earned the two transfers from the B-Main.

Lazarz’s post-race explanation was straightforward: focus on consistency, establish a lead, and keep bringing the car back around.

Series champion: Lane Lazarz

Conradt Answers Maki to Win Short Course

Ethan Maki and Dalton Conradt split the A-Main wins, leaving the overall to a tiebreak.

Maki won A1 by just 0.641 seconds after a close contest with Conradt. That put the pressure on Conradt to produce both a victory and a competitive time in the second leg.

Conradt responded with a more settled truck and a strong run to the finish. He pulled clear in A2 and recorded the time needed to secure the overall.

In his interview, Conradt explained that his truck had been tippy during A1. Raising the sidewall glue coverage and lowering the truck helped improve its behavior for the second race.

Van Slutz finished third in both legs to complete the podium. Adam Chodara and Steven Emmons advanced from the B-Main.

Maki finished second at Hoosier and secured the Short Course series championship, adding to his Independent 4WD season title.

Round podium: 1. Dalton Conradt | 2. Ethan Maki | 3. Van Slutz
Series champion: Ethan Maki

Vanderbeek Sweeps Stadium Truck

Owen Vanderbeek controlled both Stadium Truck A-Mains to finish the season with the round win and championship.

While Vanderbeek built his lead in A1, Connor Esbeck and Evan Cook contested third, with Esbeck coming out ahead. Bryson Furnish finished second.

Vanderbeek repeated the win in A2 as Furnish and Esbeck fought closely behind him. Shane Alberico recovered from early trouble to close on the chasing group, but Furnish held second and Esbeck third.

The matching results across both legs settled the overall podium.

Vanderbeek credited a familiar setup, with firmer tire inserts helping calm the truck on the high-grip surface. Alberico and Zack Mazurek earned the two B-Main transfers.

Round podium: 1. Owen Vanderbeek | 2. Bryson Furnish | 3. Connor Esbeck
Series champion: Owen Vanderbeek

Sturgeon Wins 40+ 2WD by Less Than Half a Second

Alex Sturgeon and Casey Blasczyk brought the overall decision down to 0.394 seconds.

Sturgeon won A1 ahead of Blasczyk and David Alberico. In A2, Sturgeon moved into the lead early, but trouble dropped him back and gave Blasczyk the opportunity to chase the overall-winning time.

Blasczyk pushed through the closing stages, recording his fastest lap late in the race. He won the leg in 5:12.126, narrowly missing Sturgeon’s 5:11.732 from A1.

That left Sturgeon first overall, Blasczyk second, and Alberico third. Michael Malott and Greg Niklas earned their places through the B-Main.

Sturgeon acknowledged afterward that his opening-leg performance had saved the result after mistakes in A2. The victory also secured his successful defense of the series championship.

Round podium: 1. Alex Sturgeon | 2. Casey Blasczyk | 3. David Alberico
Series champion: Alex Sturgeon

Blasczyk Finishes the Job in 40+ 4WD

Casey Blasczyk completed a two-leg sweep to secure both the Hoosier round victory and the season championship.

After winning A1 ahead of Allen Horne and David Alberico, Blasczyk faced an early setback in A2. A pipe catch briefly allowed Alberico through, but Blasczyk recovered the lead and pulled away.

Horne finished second overall, with Alberico third. Adam Chodara and Mike Winders claimed the B-Main transfers.

In his interviews, Blasczyk credited a strong setup, assistance from fellow racers, and regular practice with Chase Lemieux at Trackside as important parts of his progress.

Round podium: 1. Casey Blasczyk | 2. Allen Horne | 3. David Alberico
Series champion: Casey Blasczyk

The Series Championship That Needed a Fourth Tiebreaker

The suspense continued after the last race.

Aydin Horne and Chase Lemieux finished the 2WD Modified series tied on 298 points. During the awards presentation, officials explained that the championship counted each driver’s best three rounds, with two dropped results and a point available for TQ.

Both drivers had a win, a TQ, a second, and a third. The decision reached a fourth tiebreaker, which considered their results across all five rounds.

Horne emerged as the 2026 2WD Modified Buggy series champion, with Lemieux second and Broc Champlin third.

Lemieux still left Hoosier with the 4WD Modified series championship, completing a season in which both Modified title races remained significant through the finale.
